Hauptseminar: 2 hours class.

Preparational Meeting: April 17, 2002. Room: S 1229, Time: 3:00pm

In this meeting we discuss our meeting time and assignments of papers to people. The meeting times and location below are tentative and subject to change.

Meeting Time and Location: Every Wednesday, Room: 0240, Time: 14:00- 15:30

Start: May 1, 2002

Content:

The primary focus of the seminar is on managing technical teams in the context of object oriented projects and development of complex software systems in general.

We will explore various techniques which have been successfully applied with the goal of understanding where each might be appropriate. Since the single most important factor in project success or failure is the effectiveness of the project manager, we will spend the bulk of time on specific theories and models which help maximize leadership effectiveness. We will cover the impact of teams (participatory management), leadership and stakeholder models(promoter model, situational leadership model) and will take an in depth look at new project management methods such as issue-based management, feature-driven management and extreme programming.

The course will be run in graduate seminar format. Each student taking the course for credit has to present a paper from the reading list shown below. Students will meet privately with the instructor to discuss the preparation of their presentation. The schedule is tentative and may be modified. The speaker can give the presentation either in German or in English.
